AhlulBayt News Agency: The qualifying round of Brunei’s National Quran Reading Competition for Youth was held from May 14 to 16. The event took place in the Southeast Asian country with the participation of young qari and qariah.
This year, a total of 93 youth competed, including 66 qari (male reciters) and 27 qariah (female reciters). After the evaluation, 30 of them were selected to advance to the semi-finals.
In addition to the competition, the participants attended a two-day Program Kemahiran Al-Quran (KIA). The program aimed to strengthen their Quranic recitation skills, focusing on melody, voice, eloquence (fasahah), and Tajweed, all essential aspects for competitive Quranic recitation.
Only those who scored higher than 80 percent out of the 93 contestants secured a place in the semi-finals, which will be held on May 25. The competition continues to be a significant event for young Quranic talents.
The top five youth from this year’s qualifying round will move on to the finals scheduled for June 19. They will compete alongside the winners of last year’s competition, making it an exciting conclusion to the national event.
Brunei’s Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports organizes this annual event to nurture and develop young qari and qariah, enabling them to compete at national and international levels in Quranic recitation.
